CDA: Right reasons to run

| May 13, 2011 10:00 PM

Recently there have been many letters suggesting that School Board "change is good." Not all change is for the better. Please read what the candidates represent that are running for Cd'A School Board positions.

Two candidates, Tom Hamilton and Terri Seymour, are running because they have a personal agenda. They want the IB program gone and stricter censorship of novels read. They have not suggested that they want to serve, but want to fix the board.

What will happen to our board if these two serve on it? It will be like a lame-duck Congress. With their personal agendas being their driving force, our board will not be at its best to serve our children. They have not presented themselves to be open to discussion, collaboration, or positive problem solving. They do not presently serve on any district committee.

However, the other candidates, Stephanie Powers and Greg Rod, are presently SERVING our school district. Greg is on two committees (curriculum and policy) and Stephanie has been serving on the board since Vern Newby retired. Stephanie has a long successful history with our district; leadership, volunteering, and working with children. Greg is a fire captain in Cd'A and has two young children attending our schools.

Both Stephanie and Greg are running for the right reasons: to help lead our district to best serve the 10,000+ students presently attending and those that will attend in the future. Please vote Tuesday!
