Reagan Repubs endorse school candidates

| May 3, 2011 11:29 AM

POST FALLS — The Kootenai County Reagan Republicans officially announced their school district trustee endorsements today.  The conservative organization’s Board of Directors voted to recommend for election as Trustees:

• Tom Hamilton and Terri Seymour for Trustees in the Coeur d’Alene School District;

• Bonnie Beaulieu and Robin Moser in the Post Falls School District;

• and Bob Weaver in the Lakeland School District.

All five candidates are expected to attend the Reagan Republicans monthly evening meeting and candidate mixer at 7 this Thursday night, May 5 at Fedora Pub & Grille, 1726 W. Kathleen, Coeur d’Alene

“All five candidates are active citizens and fiscal conservatives that are willing to tackle the challenges our public education system faces,” said Jeff Ward, KCRR president.  Ward expects these school board elections to have the highest turnout in Kootenai County history. “We are at a crucial junction in Idaho public education.  Conservative education reformers are now challenging the entrenched incumbents and their hand-picked successors supported by the powerful teachers union. We think parents and taxpayers should have a voice in our schools.”

Ward says that KCRR is supporting candidates who support ending tenure, establishing merit pay for teachers, increasing technology in the classroom and installing “back to basics” and pro-American curriculums, contrasting them with those endorsed by the National Education Association and its local affiliates.

Ward said, “The union, and the school board candidates it lavishes with financial support, oppose every meaningful education reform and consistently offers only one alternative: raising taxes. These are the same people who have locally negotiated contracts to use our tax dollars to supply union bosses with free cell phones and school administrators with slush funds and athletic club memberships. Their selfish opposition to reforming and improving education hurts our kids and their futures.”

The Kootenai County Reagan Republicans organization endorses candidates in non-partisan races in order to inform its members and voters of candidates that share the conservative values of the Republican Party and the club’s namesake, President Ronald Reagan.  The Kootenai County Reagan Republicans was founded in 2009 as an association of Republican activists in North Idaho.
