Music Chorale spring concert this weekend

| March 31, 2011 9:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - The key is variety.

And it only comes but three times a year.

The Northwest Sacred Music Chorale - a team of 65 musicians - will sing its spring concert this weekend, a show that will cover tunes from the patriotic to the spiritual.

"The greatest thing about the spring concert is the variety of music we'll provide," said Carolyn Keefer, chorale singer, board member and fundraiser. "It's not just classical, it's not just pop."

But classical there shall be, as the team will perform 'A Requiem' by composer Maurice Durufle.

The concert, which will incorporate performances by the Hayden Meadows Elementary School children's choir and a chamber orchestra, will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. The nonprofit musical group - which has attracted singers from across the region to put on shows for nine years - uses proceeds to cover expenses.

Both shows are expected to last around two hours, with a brief intermission.

The only other times the group performs is in the fall and at Christmas.

During the Sunday show's intermission, the group will raffle off a painting by late artist Stephen Lyman titled "Dance of Cloud and Cliff."

The 40-by-26-inch piece is valued at $3,000. Raffle tickets cost $10.

Show tickets are $10 for adults, and $8 for students and seniors.

Tickets can be purchased at the concert or at First Presbyterian Church, 521 Lakeside Ave. in Coeur d'Alene; Great Harvest Bread Company, 2106 Government Way; Northwest Academy of Music, 4055 N. Government Way or by visiting www.nwsmc.org.

Up to 400 can be seated for each show.
