Museum of North Idaho opens Friday

The Museum of North Idaho in Coeur d'Alene opens for the season at 11 a.m. Friday.

New exhibits include "Your History In 3-D," which gives insight into how the museum collects, preserves and interprets history using three-dimensional and two-dimensional artifacts.

As part of the exhibit, the public can use a computer to search the museum's collections, such as:

* "The Mullan Road" is about Idaho's first constructed road over the Fourth of July Pass.

* "The Scandinavians Settled Here" exhibit looks at the Nordic influences in the Coeur d'Alene region and features a large wood sculpture of Harald Haarfager Viking King of Norway by the Artist Steinar Karlsen on loan from the local Sons of Norway Harald Haarfager Lodge 2-011.

* "It Started with a Fort" tells the story of the Coeur d'Alene's Fort Sherman.

* The exhibit Schitsu'umsh, "The People Who Were Discovered Here," gives a glimpse into the life of the Coeur d'Alenes through beadwork, tools, maps, stories and life lessons.

Admission to the Museum of North Idaho will be free April 9. Otherwise, it is $3 for adults, $1 for children 6-16, under 6 is free, and a family rate of $7 for two adults and children under 16. Members are admitted free.

The Museum Store, 115 Northwest Blvd., is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
