| March 30, 2011 9:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Center was awarded the Inclusive Community Facility award by the Idaho Council on Developmental Disabilities, its board announced Tuesday.

The community center will be presented the award at its facility off Golf Course Road in Coeur d'Alene at 10:30 a.m. Monday.

The center was nominated by Denise Wetzel of Coeur d'Alene who is the mother of two sons with disabilities.

"Sometimes, as parents, we are so used to being told 'No, your child cannot follow the rules so they cannot be allowed in this program.' It is nice to know that the Kroc Center is willing to make the extra effort to include all people of our community."

The 23-member council volunteer board recognizes programs and practices that demonstrate exemplary inclusion of people with developmental disabilities.

Marilyn Sword, executive director of the statewide council, will present the award Monday.
