Arene E. Wood, 89

Arene E. (Schoonover) Wood, 89, passed away March 27, 2011, in Coeur d'Alene. She was born May 21, 1921, in Aspen, Colo., to Clyde J. and Doris Schoonover. Arene attended grade school in Nampa, then moved to Pocatello. She then attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and later Pocatello High School. Later, she received her nursing degree at Idaho State University. Arene loved every minute of her nursing career.

She is survived by her son, Reverend Jim C. Kern, daughter Mary K. Hughes, 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Arene is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas I. Wood, son Robert Lewis Kern and daughter Margaret Jones.

A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, April 2, at 1 p.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Coeur d'Alene. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Spokane. English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d'Alene, is in care of the arrangements.
