IACI: Backing wrong people
I am not a Republican or a Democrat, but an independent voter. It is odd to me that big business Idaho Association of Commerce and Industry (IACI)-backed Republicans write legislation regarding education. Luna has virtually no classroom experience, yet he is an expert in leading teachers in educating students. Why does big business have leaders with a clue running them? The answer is obvious: It doesn't work.
So how can people without any classroom experience be experts in writing and passing legislation to educate our most precious resource and future generation? I think I have the answer: Greed, arrogance and money. If Senate Bill 1184 passes; Mr. Otter, Mr. Luna, Mr. Goedde and Company, along with Nonini, will receive large campaign contributions from IACI members that profit greatly from this legislation. Do they care if test scores go down or the dropout rate goes up? No, it will be the teachers' fault, whose class size increased and pay decreased.
I am not a fan of more taxes, but let the experts, teachers and administrators decide how to spend these funds. Sooner or later the state, not the local property owner, is going to have to fund education. Voters need to wake up and stop voting Big Business (IACI)-backed candidates into office. Voters need to stop supporting IACI businesses with their hard-earned dollars.
