The history of this Stutzke Stone family is an interesting as its products, especially if you're into rocks.

Max Stutzke worked on Mt. Rushmore in the 1930s and moved his family to the Inland Northwest in the 1940s, purchasing a rock quarry north of Sandpoint in 1947. His sons Marvin, Calvin and Ray harvested stone from the quarry for the next 30 years. Grandson Robert Stutzke, a fourth-generation mason, now is an owner of the quarry and also is opening Stutzke Stone at 5273 Government Way, Coeur d'Alene.

Preparing to open where Bedrock Landscaping Supply had been, Stutzke Stone bills itself as a one-stop rock shop with building ledge stone, cut corners, patio flagstone, retaining walls, steps, slabs and decorative items such as fountains, tables, water features, birdbaths, benches, candleholders and gravels.

Planning a definite opening for April 4, hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Phone 665-7772. Check www.stutzkestone.com.

Idaho Home Medical moves

Offering medical aids to daily living, Idaho Home Medical has moved to Northern Lights Mall (in the former Wells Fargo Loan space next to the Dollar Store) at Highway 95 and Haycraft.

Formerly at 212 W. Ironwood (Albertson's mall), the 15-year-old company sells hospital beds, walking aids, wheelchairs, bath safety equipment, oxygen and sleep apnea equipment. Its move was March 1, and the company has two other locations in the Spokane area.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays with a 24-hour on-call service. Phone 765-3387.

Velvet Hanger doubles space

Doubling its size in a 100-year-old building, the Velvet Hanger is unfolding itself into the space next door at 413 Sherman Ave., Coeur d'Alene.

Originally at 1508 Northwest Blvd., the 6-year-old store is a women's contemporary clothing boutique owned by Dianne Dahlke and Deborah Jacobs. The historical building once was a bakery and later the Seagull Bar. The new space most recently housed Cheryl Burchell Jewelry, which has rejoined its parent store Cheryl Burchell Goldsmiths at 1524 Northwest Blvd.

Hours at the Velvet Hanger are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 to 4 Sundays. Phone 664-6461. Check www.shopvelvethanger.com.
