Chester Robert Vig, 96
A very longtime resident of Dalton Gardens, Chester Robert Vig passed away Monday, March 21, 2011, at the age of 96, in Guardian Angel Assisted Living facility following a short illness. He was born Feb. 15, 1915, in Hazelton, N.D., to James L. Vig and Adelaid Wright.
The family later moved to Opal, N.D., where he met Clara Lucille Bowlby and later married Aug. 28, 1934. The moved to Dalton Gardens where their three children were born.
Chester worked at many jobs. During the Depression, he worked building the Farragut Naval Base. They spent one summer in South Dakota where he broke horses. They farmed in St. Maries and worked for a dairy farm milking the cows. They then moved to Post Falls and Chester got a job at Alcoa Aluminum Plant which was bought by Kaiser Aluminum and where he retired in 1978. They moved back to Dalton Gardens in 1946 where the family home still is.
He is pre-deceased by his parents; his wife, Clara of 73 years; three brothers, Clinton, Harvey and Carl; and one sister, Violet Bedford.
He is survived by his children, Walter Vig (Jean) of LaVerkin, Utah, Keith Vig of Dalton Gardens and Wanda Litallen-Goodwin of Hayden; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2011, at St. Pius Catholic Church in Coeur d'Alene, with a reception to follow.
