Burnett lifts Hawks past Tigers

BASEBALL

RATHDRUM - Tyler Burnett went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs scored as the Lakeland Hawks defeated the Timberlake Tigers 15-5 in a nonleague game Thursday.

"I was very impressed with the way our guys hit," said Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury, whose team had 15 hits in the win. "Tyler (Shaffer) is a good quality pitcher and my guys just sat back and hit the ball really well. That's what our goal was coming into today and let the score take care of itself."

Troy Carr went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two steals for Lakeland (1-2), which hosts Moscow on April 2.

J.D. Page had a two-run single in the fourth inning for Timberlake (1-3), which travels to the Bonners Ferry tournament today.

COEUR d'ALENE - Nikki Ragsdale and Amanda Brown teamed for a no-hitter in the first game for the Vikings (5-1) at Larry Schwenke Field.

Ragsdale struck out eight in five innings and Brown fanned two in the sixth for Coeur d'Alene.

Jessica Ball went 3 for 3 with three runs for the Vikings.

In the second game, Lindsie Scholwinski struck out six and gave up one in four innings, and Brown struck out the side in the fifth.

Elli Tindall went 3 for 3 for Coeur d'Alene, which returns to action April 5 at Lake City. It was the season openers for Sandpoint.

"After getting dumped by Lake City, it was nice to see the kids get out there and hit the ball some," Coeur d'Alene coach Larry Bieber said. "We accomplished what we set out to do - play hard and play good softball."

SPIRIT LAKE - Cheyenne Neal hit a two-run double in the third inning but the Tigers could not overcome 10 errors in a nonleague loss to Riverside in their season opener.

"We just didn't make plays behind our pitcher today," Timberlake coach Mike Menti said. "We had a lot of routine plays, but couldn't make the throws. Nicole (Cameron) did a great job of keeping the ball on the ground, but had to throw five or six outs."

Timberlake will face Kellogg today at 1:30 in the Bonners Ferry tournament, which was moved to Spirit Lake.

PULLMAN - Coeur d'Alene's Brennan Stillinger shot a three-under 69 to finish in a three-way tie for medalist at the Pullman Invitational at the Palouse Ridge Golf Course.

Stillinger was second in the playoff to Clarkston's Michael Baldeck, who won medalist honors.

Coeur d'Alene freshman Stephen Roller shot a 70 to finish fourth, but played as an individual and didn't score for the Vikings, who finished second with a 300.

"I'm proud of how the kids are beginning to step up," Coeur d'Alene coach Bryan Duncan said. "It pays to practice and play and their efforts are starting to show. With only one senior, it's something to be proud of. Our kids have came a long way in the last three weeks."

Derek Bayley finished 10th with a 75 for Lakeland.

SPOKANE - The visiting Trojans swept the boys matches, but went 1-6 in girls and mixed doubles to finish with a draw against the Knights.

"It was nice to finally get out to play," Post Falls coach Angela Blair said. "Hopefully with the boys we continue to see that throughout the season. Our boys will certainly carry us, but now we know what we've got to work on."

Post Falls travels to Moscow on April 6.
