BASEBALL
The Coeur d’Alene Blaze under-12 select baseball team took third place at The Gathering AAU tournament last weekend in Kennewick, Wash.
The Blaze went 1-1 Saturday with Brandon Kosiancic getting the win on the mound and Chase Walk coming in to get the save in the first game.
In Sunday’s first game, the Blaze got another early morning win to set up an afternoon game against the 2010 state champions from Clarkston, Wash. Brandon Kosiancic and Chase Walk went to the mound again to get the win and the save respectively, but it was Eli Putrin sparking the offense with three RBIs as the Blaze went on to win 7-4 and finish third.
GYMNASTICS
The Avant Coeur’s men’s gymnastics team brought home the level 4 and 5 team championship titles at the state meet last Saturday in Hayden.
On the Level 4 team, Cody Bancroft competed in the 5 & 6 age division and received 1st on pommel horse, 2nd on rings, vault, and high bar, 3rd on parallel bars and floor, placing him 1st in the all around. In the 9 year old age division, Jackson Scherr received 1st on all 6 events and 1st place all around. Nicky Ancker received 2nd on rings, 3rd on floor, pommel horse, and parallel bars, 5th on vault and high bar, placing him 3rd in the all around.
In the 10 and up age division, Lincoln Powell received 1st on pommel horse, rings, and vault, 2nd on floor and high bar, 3rd on parallel bars, and 1st place all around. Cayden Stulc received 4th on vault, 5th on floor, pommel horse, and rings, 6th on parallel bars and high bar, placing him 5th in the all around.
On the level 5 team, in the 10 year old age division, Austin Kirk received 1st on pommel horse, vault, parallel bars, and high bar, 2nd on rings and 4th on floor, placing him 1st in the all around. Hudson Brandt received 4th on high bar, pommel horse and rings, 5th on parallel bars, 6th on floor and 9th on vault, placing him 4th in the all around.
In the 11 and up age division Mitchell McHugh received 1st on floor, pommel horse, rings, and parallel bars, 2nd on high bar, 3rd on vault, and 1st place all around.
Flip Factory Gymnastics hosted the boys state gymnastics meet on March 19. Here are the highlights:
Brennan Blankenship took 3rd on Rings. Gabe See took 2nd on Vault and 3rd on High Bar. David Hay took 3rd on Rings and High Bar.
Also all of Flip Factory’s girls team levels 3 and up made it to state and will be competing March 25-27.

Coeur d’Alene Sting under-14 girls gold (Swoboda): The Sting defeated the SSC Elite (Jasso White) 2-1.
Sting U10 girls: The Sting beat the East Valley Rockstars 9-6 in an indoor game Monday night at the Spokane Soccer Center.
Erika Skindlov finished the game with four goals, Janessa Ingram and Mollie Haman had two goals each, Sydnee Rud one goal. Sydnee Rud had three assists and Meike McCaw, Erika Skindlov and Brynna Richmond each had one.
Sting U10 boys (Chelsea): The Sting went 3-2 at the Inland Northwest 5-A-Side tournament last weekend in Spokane, losing to the eventual winner and runner-up.

Sting U12 boys: The Sting split into two teams to participate in the Inland Northwest 5-A-Side tournament in Spokane this past weekend. The Sting White finished second, the Sting Black third. The Sting White lost in a shootout in the title game. The Sting Black lost to the Sting White in the semifinals.

SWIMMING
The Coeur d’Alene Area Swim Team entered 12 at the Age Group Sectionals March 18-20 in Federal Way, Wash. — Nicole Rozier, Marcus Rozier, Gabe Markowski, Caleb Markowski, Ethan Cordes, Spencer Shuman, Maddy Barrett, Suzanne deTar, Maggie deTar, Jonathan Archer, Peyton Bowen and Cole Curtis. Out of 135 teams competing, CAST finished 22nd.
Several swimmers made it back to finals placing in the top eight swimmers; Peyton Bowen in the 200 fly finished 7th, Maggie deTar placed 6th in the 100 free, Maddy Barrett 3rd in the 50 free, Ethan Cordes 6th in the 200 free, 3rd in the 50 free, 4th in the 100 free, and 2nd in the 100 fly. Nicole Rozier 2nd in the 50 fly, 4th in the 50 free, 3rd in the 200 IM, 3rd in the 1650 free, and 7th in the 100 fly. Cole Curtis 6th in the 50 free, 5th in the 50 fly, 4th in the 100 free, 3rd in the 50 breast and 6th in the 100 IM.
Nicole Rozier set an Inland Empire Swimming record in the mile for female 12 year olds. Her time of 18:41.86 broke the old record by 2 seconds.
