Vikings roll in baseball opener

COEUR d'ALENE - Jake Pereira took a no-hitter into the fourth inning and finished with six strikeouts, one walk and one hit allowed as the Coeur d'Alene Vikings beat the Sandpoint Bulldogs 12-2 in their season opener Tuesday at Ted Page Field.
Matt Lambert drove in three runs, two on a third-inning single for Coeur d'Alene. Kaleb DeHass hit a two-run single in the third, and Joe Roletto scored two runs and singled in the game-ending run.
"It was nice to get outside and get a game in," said Coeur d'Alene coach Nick Rook, whose team was rained out of its scheduled season opener last Saturday.
Sam Nitcy singled with one out in the fourth for Sandpoint.
Coeur d'Alene plays host to Moscow today at 2 p.m. in a makeup doubleheader.

SPOKANE - Sophomore Kyle Kaufman shot a 3-over-par 74 and Coeur d'Alene's boys finished fourth at the 15-team Jim Shriver Cup at the Manito Golf and Country Club.
Mt. Spokane shot a 307 to win by four strokes over Clarkston. Central Valley shot 319, Coeur d'Alene 320. Coeur d'Alene's No. 2 team shot 341 and finished seventh.
"We're getting there; we've still got work to do," Coeur d'Alene coach Bryan Duncan said.
Stephen Roller, with Coeur d'Alene's No. 2 team, tied for 14th with an 80.
Coeur d'Alene competes at the Palouse Ridge Invitational on Thursday in Pullman.

COEUR d'ALENE - Lake City won two of three girls doubles matches, but came up short to the Saxons.
"It felt good for the first regular season match," Lake City coach Bob Brunn said. "We got to see some kids we haven't played before and did well for the first time out this season. I was pretty pleased with the overall effort."
Haley Kausen won her No. 2 singles match for Lake City, which travels to face Lewiston and Moscow on April 9.
