Louise Howard, 93

| March 22, 2011 10:00 PM

On March 19, 2011, our mother Louise Howard at age 93 accepted her invitation to heaven.

Remembering her forever is her son, Harold residing in Post Falls; her three daughters, Delories of Fallon, Nev., Michele and Barbara of Coeur d'Alene.

Mother would have wanted the names of her family and extended family members be mentioned here, however, because she left behind four generations prohibits acknowledging all those names in this forum.

Although she lived most of her life in the Post Falls area, she was born in Montana, and spent her early childhood years in the mining town of Castle City, now a registered Montana Ghost Town. She was proud of the fact that the town and many of the surrounding mines were founded by her father and his brothers, the Hensley's. She cherished her memories of the time spent there with her father, mother and five siblings, and shared those memories freely with all those who would listen.

Mother saw herself as a pioneer of sorts, which helped her forge ahead surviving the depression years, war years, financial woes, health issues and the one by one loss of all her brothers and sisters. She managed many area restaurants, and was happiest visiting with and cooking for all those who came through her door. Mother was never one to give in, although nearly blind she surprised us with her newly found artistic abilities, and a willingness to challenge herself by learning to sign in an effort to compensate for her deafness.

She considered LaCrosse Health and Rehab. her home and often said she felt it a blessing to be able to live there. She also felt her life was greatly enriched by the extra care and comfort given to her by Hospice of North Idaho. She managed to keep a sense of humor about herself and her circumstances right up until the end which made her a young spirit in an old body.

We have lost our story teller, our survivor and our mother, but find comfort in knowing she is on another grand adventure. Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements.
