SCHOOLS: District reaction is strange
Does anyone else think it's a bit odd that Superintendent Hazel Bauman and Vice Chair of the Coeur d'Alene School Board Bill Hemenway, want the school levy election results changed to reflect a lower passage rate on Option 2?
They won! Now granted, the ballot was confusing! But counting the votes the way Hazel thought they really should be counted still lets the levy pass. So why write a letter requesting the vote count on Option 2 be reduced to 55 percent rather than 86 percent passage? If they felt so strong about this why was Ms. Bauman or a representative from the school board not present at the County Commissioners meeting on Tuesday to voice their opinion? I guess they feel they are doing the right thing - correcting an error in how the ballot was designed by the school district. I wonder if we would have heard from Ms. Bauman and Mr. Hemenway had the "re-tabulated" votes shown Option 2 did not pass? So the question is why make this show of concern and fairness now? What are they trying to prevent?
