TUBBS: Part of McEuen steamroller

| March 18, 2011 10:00 PM

Sunday's Editorial was a political hack job in the form of Political Correctness. Virgil Edwards' letter (March 12), besides being printed as a My Turn column, was cheered on and "saluted" in this editorial. He is being used as a pawn by the people backing Team McEuen and their grand plans. If Team McEuen really cared about making a Tubbs Hill nature experience more accessible, their original plan would not have included water features, a lookout platform and a sledding hill.

Mr. Edwards took the original "Tubbs Hill encroachment" letter writers to task for implying that Tubbs Hill is 100 percent untouched by man. I don't think the letter writers meant to imply that, just that they are trying to minimize any "development" on Tubbs Hill. Even the city's own website calls it a "natural area" and states: "The public is invited to support the preservation of Tubbs Hill..."

Nonetheless, I doubt this is the first letter to the editor whose writers were a little caught up in their cause or point of view. I don't think I have ever seen The Press so actively support one side as to print a My Turn column on the subject and then follow it with an editorial to repeatedly praise the writer and encourage readers to go back and read their article. Warning to all citizens: try to step in front of the McEuen Field "Design Concept" steamroller and you will get flattened.
