SENTENCE: Tragedy only made worse

| March 18, 2011 10:00 PM

I cannot believe the sentence declared by the judge in the Amanda Skogen story. There must be other facts in the case not covered in the story to have judged this woman as a criminal and given her such a harsh sentence.

I understand what an unexpected and tragic event this was to the parents. However, confining the baby sitter to prison will not bring back the baby.

Please review the story and present the facts that support such a sentence. If there are no further substantial facts it appears the tragedy has been expanded by two lives.

According to the story, "Skogen pushed the 3-year-old baby after he wet himself and it got on her while the two were on a couch." Her action appeared instinctive without any serious intent to injure the child.

I do not know Amanda but feel very sad for her.
