Knights to hostSt. Patrick dinner

COEUR d'ALENE - The Knights of Columbus is having its annual St. Patrick's Day dinner and song fest 5-8 p.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Center, 10th and Indiana.

Dinner will include corned beef brisket, boiled Irish red potatoes, carrots, cabbage and dessert, along with beer, wine and other beverages.

Arvid Lundin and his Celtic group "Deep Roots" will play traditional Irish tunes. Song sheets will be provided so people can sing along.

There will be a drawing for prizes, including dinners and rounds of golf. There will also be door prizes from All Things Irish.

Admission is by donation.

The search forMr. CHS is tonight

COEUR d'ALENE - The quest to select a new Mr. CHS is on.

The annual competition and show takes place tonight at Coeur d'Alene High School.

The doors open at 6:30, and the show starts at 7 p.m. Admission is $5.

It is open to the public.

The Mr. CHS show is run by the senior girls, but it's the boys who go head-to-head trying to outperform each other to earn the title.

Boys will be singing, dancing, playing guitar. There will be at least one unicycle rider on stage.

There are 11 senior guys seeking to be the next Mr. CHS.

"The senior girls have worked really hard on some of the dances they've put together," said Sydney Kohles, one of 23 senior girls organizing the show.

Proceeds go toward the senior class' end of year events.

Candidate filing deadline is Friday

Friday is the last day for folks to file candidacy for the upcoming elections for school district trustees, consolidated library district trustees and highway district commissioners.

Declaration of Candidacy forms and nominating petitions are available at all taxing district offices.

These include: Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls and Lakeland school districts; Kellogg Joint School District; Kootenai Joint School District; Plummer-Worley School District; the Community Library Network; and East Side, Lakes, Post Falls and Worley highway districts.

Any questions should be directed to the district offices. All forms are due by 5 p.m. on Friday.

Elk foundation plans fundraiser

COEUR d'ALENE -

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation will have its annual dinner and auctions on Saturday at the Coeur d'Alene Best Western Inn.

Doors open at 5 p.m. There will be live and silent auctions, games, prize drawings and activities for children.

Last year's event attracted about 250 people and raised about $30,000, with 95 percent of proceeds staying in North Idaho for RMEF projects.

Chapter chair Brad Hogeweide said the banquet is the organization's primary fundraiser as it focuses on habitat, other wildlife and their habitat in North Idaho.

"It's a fun time," he said. "It's a chance for people to talk about common goals."

Tickets are $70 for a single, which include a membership and meal, and $105 for a couple, which includes one membership and two meals.

Hauser Ice Breaker Run is April 3

HAUSER - The 10K Hauser Lake Ice Breaker Run will be held on April 3 at 10 a.m.

The start is at the boat launch behind the Hauser fire station, with the course along Hauser Lake and Cliff House roads.

Registration deadline is March 26. Cost is $15, which includes a T-shirt, or $7.50 without a T-shirt. Registration forms are at www.hauserwatershed.org. Those who register the day of the race will pay $5 more.

The run, a second-seed qualifying race for Bloomsday, is sponsored by the Hauser Lake Watershed Coalition and the Hauser Lions Club.

Last year eight men finished in less than 39 minutes and four women less than 47 minutes to earn a second seed at Bloomsday. Second seeds start after the elite runners and before the rest of the field.
