Check smoke alarms tonight

With the beginning of daylight saving time on Sunday, the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department is asking people to test their smoke alarms.

"Don't gamble with your life and assume your smoke alarms are working," according to a press release.

The Coeur d'Alene Fire Department encourages everyone to change their smoke detector batteries on Sunday. Firefighters say to test each one, every month.

The Coeur d'Alene Fire Department is promoting its fire prevention program aimed at assisting people in need with changing their batteries and adding or replacing smoke detectors.

Crews will arrive at the house and change the detector batteries or install smoke detectors if needed. They will bring any other needed equipment, ladders and screwdrivers. A limited number of smoke detectors and batteries will be on hand.

To schedule an appointment, call The Coeur d'Alene Fire Department at 769-2340 or come by any city fire station or headquarters, 300 E. Foster Ave. if you are unable to replace the batteries yourself.
