McEUEN: Price a starting point

| March 11, 2011 9:00 PM

Oh, where to start? Lack of a price tag, future home of year round boat launch with ample and close by parking for boat trailers, future home of the American Legion ball fields? No answers to these questions, just that we will find out at a later date, just go along with us and we will fill in the blanks. Sure sounds a lot like the health bill, doesn't it? Before I buy anything I find out what the cost will be so that I can be sure it fits into my budget; that only makes financial sense.

The boat launch and baseball fields have already been paid for; the launch by federal monies and fees and boat registration fees by boaters from all over the U.S. A lot of the monies that have been paid come from people outside the city limits and thus cannot vote on the mayor or City Council, so, unlike what the mayor stated last month, we have not already voted on this project by voting them in, those that live outside the city but who have paid fees have no say in the matter. Seems like taxation without representation. I want to thank the Idaho Department of Parks for letting the people outside the city know about this takeover; it is only right that the people who have paid for the launch be informed.

As far as the possibility of moving the launch to the North Idaho College grounds on the river, will that launch be usable year round when the river is up and roaring or when the lake is drawn way down? Will there be so much current that you cannot safely launch by yourself? NIC is horrible to access in a car let alone in a truck pulling a boat trailer. How much more traffic can the local streets handle if the boat launch is moved there? And remember that this launch is the only local one that is usable year round. This land is also controlled by NIC, so what happens 10-20 years from now when the school decides that it needs that land? Where would the launch be moved to then? Will we be back to ground zero again?

I could go on, but you get my drift. Financial Sense is needed people, especially at this time!
