LEVY: Wording was a problem

| March 11, 2011 9:00 PM

Am I the only person that had a problem with the way the school tax levy was written? If a person voted no on levy 1 their right to vote on levy 2 was denied. In essence if you wanted a say on levy 2 you had to vote for levy 1. They were almost guaranteeing themselves passage of levy 1.

In my eyes this is not right. When I went to the Kootenai County Elections office to file a complaint I was told to talk with the school district. I have a hard time with this also, that the school district was responsible for writing the ballots, they handle all complaints and they count the ballots. I would think that a third party that did not benefit financially from the levies would be in charge.

My biggest problem with all this is the levies go into the general fund with no accountability. Remember the passage of funds to replace a middle school downtown that was never built? The funds disappeared and were spent in the "General Fund."
