Vandal boosters can watch

game during luncheon

COEUR d'ALENE - Vandal Boosters are invited to watch Idaho's men's basketball game in the Western Athletic Conference tournament today at noon at The Coeur d'Alene Resort's Shore Lounge as part of the regularly scheduled booster luncheon this week.

Cost is $9 for the no-host lunch; parking will be validated.

Mathews earns two

seconds at nationals

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - At the USA Masters National Indoor Championships last weekend, George Mathews of Hayden Lake took second place in the men's age 65-69 20-pound weight throw with a mark of 58 feet, 1 3/4 inches. In the men's 44-pound super weight throw he was second with a mark of 32-0.

Mathews, who is the Coeur d'Alene High boys throws coach and Hammer Idaho coach, retained his world and American indoor record of 63-5 in the men's 65-69 20-pound weight throw and American indoor record in the 44-pound men's super weight throw at 34-1. His standing men's 60-64 men's 44-pound super weight American indoor record of 34-1 was broken by Todd Taylor of Oregon.

Running events

coming to St. Maries

ST. MARIES - The inaugural St. Joe River Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K Run, sponsored by Peet Dryer, will be held in St. Maries on June 12.

With the St. Joe River as the backdrop for these events, organizers encourage runners of all ages and abilities to take part in this new event. Each race will start and finish at The Cormana Building in downtown St. Maries. The marathon will start at 8 a.m., with the half marathon and 5K starting at 8:15 and 8:30, respectively.

All marathon and half marathon runners will receive a custom race tech shirt and a free ticket to the event's carbo-load dinner. The unique carbo-load pancake dinner will be held on June 11 from 4-7 p.m. 5K participants will receive a custom race T-shirt. There will be giveaways and drawings throughout the day and male and female winners of each event will also receive a prize package.
