Idaho women oust Boise State
Yinka Olorunnife had 21 points and 12 rebounds to lead Idaho over Boise State 70-59 in the first round of the Western Athletic Conference tournament Wednesday night at Las Vegas.
Olorunnife had 19 first-half points for the fifth-seeded Vandals (15-14), who play No. 4 Nevada in the quarterfinals today.
"Just the fact that it was Boise just really pumped me up and I just came out really fired up," Olorunnife said. "I just wanted to grab every rebound and gain every possession. That really helped our team get the win."
Rachele Kloke added 12 points for Idaho.
Janie Bos led No. 8 seed Boise State (12-19) with 14 points and six rebounds. The Broncos, who were swept in three games against Idaho this year, lost 12 of their last 13 contests.
The Vandals, who led 33-26 at halftime, shot 21 of 42 (50 percent) from the floor.
Southern California 78, Washington State 66: At Los Angeles, Cassie Harberts scored a career-high 31 points and added 14 rebounds as Southern Cal beat Washington State in the first round of the Pac-10 tournament.
The fifth-seeded Trojans (19-11) advance to today's quarterfinals, where they will face No. 4 Arizona.
Jazmine Perkins had 17 points and Sage Romberg added 15 for Washington State (8-23), which dropped its sixth straight game to close out the season.
Adrian Oliver hit a pullup jumper with 5 seconds left on his way to 29 points and San Jose State had to sweat out a last-second review to beat Hawaii 75-74 in the first round of the Western Athletic Conference tournament Wednesday at Las Vegas.
San Jose State (16-14), the eighth seed, trailed most of the way before a late run put the Spartans up five with less than 2 minutes left.
Fifth-seeded Hawaii (18-12) rallied to go up one in the closing seconds, but couldn't stop Oliver near the free-throw line. The Rainbow Warriors thought they had the game won when Bill Amis tipped in Jeremiah Ostrowski's desperation shot at the buzzer, but the officials ruled the basket no good after a video review.
Oliver managed to score one final time, finishing 9 for 22 from the floor, and Wil Carter added 15 points for San Jose State. The Spartans move on to face No. 4 seed Idaho in today's quarterfinals (noon, ESPNU, KVNI 1080, KJRB 790) at Orleans Arena.
"Idaho's an outstanding team. They're going to be waiting for us," San Jose State coach George Nessman said. "Their guards are pretty quick. They can push the ball. They have more weapons than you think. They're playing with confidence, but well be ready for them. We don't think our season's over."
Nevada 90, Fresno State 80: At Las Vegas, Malik Story had a career-high 34 points and hit all six of his 3-point attempts, helping Nevada beat Fresno State in the first round of the WAC tournament.
Nevada (13-18), the No. 6 seed, built a 19-point lead in the first half before allowing the Bulldogs (14-17) to chip away in the closing minutes. The Wolfpack sealed it with six free throws in the closing minute, earning a spot in the quarterfinals against No. 3 seed New Mexico State today.

No. 17 St. John's 65, Rutgers 63: At New York, St. John's, despite not making a field goal over the final 4 minutes, got some of its Madison Square Garden magic back with a victory over Rutgers (15-17) in the second round of the Big East tournament.
Dwight Hardy had 17 points for the fifth-seeded Red Storm (21-10), who improved to 8-1 on the Garden court this season with the win that sends them into the quarterfinals today against fourth-seeded and 11th-ranked Syracuse (25-6).
Marquette 67, No. 20 West Virginia 61: At New York, Darius Johnson-Odom scored 11 points, including two big 3-pointers in the final minutes, and Marquette beat West Virginia (20-11) in the second round of the Big East tournament.
The 11th-seeded Golden Eagles (20-13) advanced to the quarterfinals, where they will face third-seeded and 14th-ranked Louisville (23-8) on tonight.
No. 21 Connecticut 79, No. 22 Georgetown 62: At New York, Kemba Walker scored 28 points and Connecticut remained alive in the Big East tournament with a second-round victory over Georgetown (21-10).
Despite being the higher ranked team, the Huskies (23-9) had fallen all the way to the ninth seed in the conference tournament and were forced to beat DePaul in the opening round just to face the eighth-seeded Hoyas. UConn now gets top-seeded Pittsburgh in the quarterfinals today.
No. 25 Cincinnati 87, South Florida 61: At New York, Yancy Gates scored a career-high 25 points, leading Cincinnati (25-7) to a rout of upstart South Florida (10-23) in the Big East tournament.
Gates was 10 of 11 from the field for the seventh-seeded Bearcats, who will play No. 2 seed Notre Dame in the quarterfinals tonight.

Oregon State 69, Stanford 67: At Los Angeles, Jared Cunningham scored 24 points, including 15 of 20 free throws, and Oregon State (11-19) edged No. 8 seed Stanford (15-16) in the first round of the Pac-10 Conference tournament.
Devon Collier added 19 points, Ahmad Starks 15 points and Joe Burton had 14 rebounds for the ninth-seeded Beavers (11-19), who play Arizona in the quarterfinals tonight.
Oregon 76, Arizona State 69: At Los Angeles, E.J. Singler scored a career-high 22 points, including four 3-pointers, and Oregon defeated Arizona State in the first round of the Pac-10 tournament.
The seventh-seeded Ducks (15-16) advanced to today's quarterfinals against No. 2 seed UCLA.
Trent Lockett scored 22 points and Jamelle McMillan and Rihards Kuksiks added 11 points each for 10th-seeded Arizona State (12-19), which swept the Ducks in the regular season, including a 73-53 win last Thursday.

Northern Colorado 65, Montana 60: At Greeley, Colo., Devon Beitzel scored 13 of his 27 points over the final 5 minutes, helping top-seeded Northern Colorado earn a spot in the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history with a win over defending conference tournament champion Montana (21-10).
The Bears (21-10) have only been postseason-eligible since 2007 after moving up from the Division II ranks.
