Police increase patrols near Borah Elementary
COEUR d'ALENE - Police have stepped up patrols around Borah Elementary School following a pair of recent incidents involving comments to students.
On Friday, a man approached a student as she was walking to the bus and said he was going to kidnap her.
The child reported the incident to the teacher on duty, but police were unable to locate the man.
On Feb. 22, a woman outside the school fence told a student she was going to come back later and take the child home.
Again, the student reported the incident to the teacher on duty, but the woman was not found.
School gates were locked, and the front door was the only way inside.
"At no time did we feel our children were in any imminent danger," wrote Borah Principal Sharon Hanson.
The woman was described as having dark hair, a white winter hat, and a brown coat.
Hanson said Borah staff reviewed safety rules with students, and encouraged parents to talk with children about "Stranger Danger."
Police will continue to step up patrols around the school.
