LEVY: Former sups endorse it

| March 4, 2011 9:00 PM

Coeur d' Alene is a special place. It's one where we as citizens have over the years shown our support for our local schools, parks, public art and music. As a community we have come to expect our students to perform at a high level in academics and activities. This level of quality is our collective community "normal." It is not accidental that our school district has such a quality reputation; it is the sum of many years of community support, involved parents, effective and caring educators, and the leadership of school principals.

Every two years local dollars are required so these programs can continue beyond the minimum provided by state dollars. We all can be proud of our record of support; having passing Coeur d'Alene School District supplemental levies for more than 25 years. We believe the current district board and administration have been excellent stewards of our tax dollars during these very challenging times. They have made cuts necessitated by the reduction of state and federal dollars in excess of $8 million. The administrative staff in the district office is far leaner than in past years. Just to keep the replacement levy in place of $7.9 million is NOT enough to prevent far greater cuts that will effect children and even with the additional $5 million there will be further reductions.

We have studied the issues and believe it is the right choice and implore you to join us and vote YES TWICE on March 8.
