UNION: Comprised of real professionals

| March 2, 2011 9:00 PM

The word "professional" needs to be deleted from Cindy Omlin, executive director's organization. By simple definition she hasn't displayed one trait of a professional. They should be labeled as "Northwest Educators."

Ms. Omlin callously tossed accusations of "harassment, denigration, and bullying" by union representatives she doesn't know. I am one. I have never done anything even close to what she has suggested... and I can name thousands of others like me. We seek to inform, protect and improve on the current system in place. There has been no intimidation, no harm, and no foul. She has taken a position which is obviously based on fear not fact. She has chosen to use techniques that she is accusing the IEA of... which are unfounded. "They tell them..." when have you ever been a mouse in my pocket?

Not all doctors agree with the AMA, not all homeowners agree with their homeowner's association, but everyone knows a group has a larger and more powerful voice than one singly. I have a voice among many. It is called democracy. I choose to belong due to the opportunities IEA provides me in furthering my education and to keep me abreast of the legislature, who dictates my working conditions, class size, funding, etc.

I am a proud member of the Idaho Education Association. We are 13,000 strong, with a diverse population. My leaders serve me everyday, so that I can serve the children. I am proud of our ongoing conversation of how to do that best. And we are true professionals.
