Soirees support schools

| March 2, 2011 8:00 PM

Support education at a couple of great soirees on Saturday ... the Post Falls Education Association's 15th annual Wine, Stein and Dine at the Greyhound Park Event Center will once again raise thousands of dollars for classroom grants for District 273 schools. Tickets can be purchased at the Post Falls School District office, Post Falls Chamber or call Loretta Reed, 661-1880.

Sorensen Magnet School will also hold its fifth annual auction and soiree "Step Right Up" on Saturday with live and silent auctions, dinner and dancing at the Coeur d'Alene Resort. Tickets are available at Sorenson, Java on Sherman or Pilgrim's Market. Can't attend but want to support the school? Raffle tickets are also available for two great prizes ... $3,000 to Costco and Pilgrim's! 664-2822.***

Thanks to Keith Ekness for passing this along ...March is National Social Work Month. This year's theme is "Social Workers Change Futures." Did you know that the social work profession was established more than 100 years ago to provide as many people as possible with the tools and support they need to overcome adversity (poverty, illness, addiction, abuse, discrimination, etc.) and reach their full potential?***

For Connie and Danny O'Neal of Hauser Lake, March came in like two lambs when their mama sheep gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl on Tuesday! Last year March came in like a lamb with balmy temps, but not so much this year. Even though according to the calendar spring is just three weeks away, I've lived here long enough not to be too certain that we've seen the last of Old Man Winter just yet. There's a photo of wind-whipped white caps on Lake Coeur d'Alene on the last day of February at More Main Street.***

Happy Birthday today to Randy Bush, LeeAnn Cheeley, Rhonda Shippey, Ginny Easterly, Sharon Menti and Randy Hurst. Tomorrow Rebecca Kilmer is the birthday girl and on Friday Michael Ward turns the big 5-0, sharing the date with John Newcomb. Kelly Lattin and Matt Matthews have Saturday birthdays but Ike Lucas will celebrate 93 years on March 5. The beautiful and ageless Gladys Schneidmiller turns also 93 this year, on her Sunday birthday, which is also Adam Johnson's special day. Happy March 7th birthday to my sis, Janna Scharf and Laundry Night founder Heidi Rogers. On March 8 Cyndie Hammond and Lisa Ferguson will blow out the candles.***

Friends are invited to wish Fred Gabourie well in retirement on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Moon Dollars Coffee House in Post Falls. After 35 years practicing law here I wonder what Fred will do next.
