LEVY: Schedule looks suspicious

| March 2, 2011 9:00 PM

Isn't it convenient that the District 271 levy vote and kindergarten registration for that district occur on the same day? Parents, who would have proof of residency and identification on them already, could be influenced to go to the nearby polling place to also register and vote. Again, the district constantly faces an uphill battle of appearing straightforward with voters - even if this isn't planned it sure looks like it, doesn't it?

Why does this bother me? Because I am all for maintaining the current levy rate, as many citizens are, but such perceived tactics make me concerned that other voters are just going to try to send the message of YOU ARE NOT LISTENING to the district and cast two ‘no' votes. I am not ready to open the floodgates to 40 percent tax increases. Yes, that is the increase in the total district levy rate if the ‘essential'/supplemental portion passes. I am ready to vote to retain current levy levels but the district appears to want to push the envelope and I am concerned that citizens are going to send a message back.
