LEVY: Do it for grandkids

| March 2, 2011 9:00 PM

Many voters in our community are retired or are empty nesters like ourselves. If all households without any children living in the home vote no to save a few dollars a month, we are sending a message to our kids that education is not a priority.

My wife and I want our grandchildren to get a strong education in math, science, language arts, social studies, and reading. We also want them to be exposed to the arts and have the opportunity to play team sports and learn the value of cooperation and competition. We also want our grandchildren to walk out the door to a safe learning environment. Will they be safe heading to elementary school without a crossing guard? Will they be safe in middle and high school with no SRO to handle egregious offenses? What if one of our grandchildren has a learning deficiency? Will there be a paraprofessional to give them extra help or will they just get swallowed up in an oversized classroom?

For these reasons, we are going to do the right thing for our grandchildren, children, and our own future and vote YES for schools!
