Rick Giles, 56

On the eve of Summer Solstice, June 21, 2011, Rick Giles passed away doing what he loved - playing music in his home.

Rick was born Jan. 29, 1955, to Elmer and Joan Giles in Washington, D.C. His brother, Tom, was born two years later. Rick spent his youth in California's Bay area and graduated from high school in 1973. He attended UC Santa Cruz graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in religious studies. He married the love of his life, Barbara Rice, on Aug. 4, 1984. They moved to North Idaho in 1981.

Rick was known in the community for his love of helping people, his friendly manner and his desire to satisfy customers for whom he made quality cabinets. He and his wife are co-owners of Wovenoak. His many interests include playing music, studying and discussing religious traditions and philosophies, cooking, dancing, presenting the Uranatia Book at conferences, and exploring natural healing. His latest interest was teaching himself to speak and read Chinese.

Rick served as president of the North Idaho Mycological Association. He was a produce vendor at the Farmer's Market. Rick wrote lyrics and composed music. An accomplished guitarist, he played with a wide variety of musicians since he was a teenager.

Rick is survived by his wife Barbara, father Elmer, brother tom and three nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother.

A memorial service for Rick will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at English Funeral Chapel, 1133 N. Fourth St., Coeur d'Alene.

Rick will leave us a beautiful melody of caring, support and joy.
