Leftover moose tags available

Hunters have until Saturday to apply for a chance at 13 leftover moose controlled-hunt tags available in the second drawing, Idaho Department of Fish and Game officials reported.

The second controlled-hunt application period for the leftover tags ends June 25. Any tags left over from the drawing will be available first-come, first-serve on July 10.

Available tags include:

• 1 bull in Hunt 3037, area 10A-1.

• 1 bull in Hunt 3044, area 12-3.

• 3 bulls in Hunt 3053, area 16A.

• 4 bulls in Hunt 3054, area 17.

• 4 bulls in Hunt 3056, area 20.

For a list of hunt numbers and leftover tags available, go to the controlled hunt page: http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/cms/licenses/leftover/leftover_moose.cfm

Hunters should check the moose, mountain goat and bighorn sheep rules brochure and the controlled hunt information section for details on each hunt and specific controlled hunt information, IDFG officials said.

Controlled hunt applications may be submitted at any hunting and fishing license vendor, Fish and Game office, with a credit card by calling (800) 554-8685, or online.

The resident controlled hunt tag and application fee is $173. The nonresident controlled hunt tag and application fee is $2,116.50.

Tag fees must be included with moose controlled hunt applications, IDFG said. Applicants also must have a valid Idaho hunting license.

Controlled hunt results online

Hunters who applied for elk, deer, pronghorn, fall turkey and black bear controlled hunts can check online to see if their names were chosen in the computerized drawing, Idaho Fish and Game recently announced.

Controlled hunt drawing results are available at http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/apps/ch/results.cfm.

Applicants can enter their hunting license numbers to instantly find out how they fared.

Postcards will be mailed to successful applicants around July 10, IDFG said. Winners must buy controlled hunt tags by Aug. 1.

Unclaimed and leftover tags from the first drawing will be available in a second application period from Aug. 5-15.

Any tags not purchased by Aug. 1 will be forfeited, IDFG said. After the second drawing, any leftover tags are sold over the counter.

Tags are sold at any license vendor, online - https://id.outdoorcentral.us/ - or by telephone at (800) 554-8685, starting Aug. 25 at 10 a.m. Mountain Daylight Time.

For information on rules and dates for specific hunts consult the regulations brochure or the Fish and Game website.

Time to sign up for depredation hunts

The sign-up period to participate in depredation hunts this year runs through June 30, Fish and Game announced.

Special controlled hunts are sometimes used to relieve big game damage problems on agricultural crops. If these hunts are needed, they will be held on short notice, involve small areas and be limited to a few hunters.

Any Idaho resident with a valid hunting or combination license may participate, but hunters may apply in only one region for a given species, IDFG said.

For information and an application form, check pages 76 and 77 in the 2011 big game rule book. Fill out the form and mail it to the regional office in the desired hunting area.

All applications received before June 30 will be placed in random order, IDFG said. All applications received after June 30 will be placed at the end of the list in the order received.

The list will be valid from July 1 to June 30, 2012.

Most regions issue only a handful of depredation permits each year, IDFG explained. Generally, applications received after June 30 have little chance of being selected.
