Cyclist Kristin Armstrong involved in crash in race

MINNEAPOLIS - Boise gold medal cyclist Kristin Armstrong was involved in a crash at the Nature Valley Grand Prix on Friday night.

Armstrong, who won the Olympic time trial in Beijing in 2008, was the overall leader in the Grand Prix entering Friday's stage in Minneapolis. Race officials canceled Friday's stage after the large crash on the final lap, VeloNews reported on its website.

VeloNews reported that she "was seen holding her arm in pain" after the crash, but that she was not evacuated.

"Little beat up but she'll be fine," husband Joe Savola texted the Idaho Statesman after the accident.

Armstrong is making a return to cycling after retiring in 2009. She gave birth to a son, Lucas William, in September.

Armstrong is planning to ride in the USA Cycling National Championships next week in Augusta, Ga., a big step toward making the U.S. Olympic team for the 2012 Olympics in London.
