American Angus Association welcomes Good Hope Ranch

Good Hope Ranch in Athol is a new member of the American Angus Association, reports Bryce Schumann, CEO of the national breed organization headquartered in St. Joseph, Mo.

The American Angus Association, with nearly 30,000 active adult and junior members, is the largest beef breed association in the world. Its computerized records include detailed information on nearly 19 million registered Angus.

The association records ancestral information, keeps production records on individual animals, and develops industry-leading selection tools for its members.

These programs and services help members select and mate the best animals in their herds to produce quality genetics for the beef cattle industry and quality beef for consumers.

Command Center, Inc. announces revenue for May

Command Center, Inc., a national provider of on-demand and temporary staffing solutions that has offices in Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls, today announced revenue of $6.62 million for the four-week reporting period of May 2011, a 14 percent increase on revenue of $5.80 million recorded in May 2010. There were 53 company-owned stores in May, as compared with 50 stores one year ago.

The company said revenue from core business segments in May had increased 29 precedent year-over-year. In May 2010, almost $700,000 in revenue was derived from the sharp increase in business associated with last year's clean-up activities during the Gulf Oil Spill.

"As revenue improved during the first two months of this second quarter," said Command's Chairman and CEO, Glenn Welstad, "management has kept a sharp focus on pricing and operational efficiencies. I am happy to say that our margins are showing steady improvement in line with the company's goals. I am confident this trend will continue in the coming months."

Feds expand Idaho preference areas for federal contracts

The U.S. Department of Labor has approved the Idaho Labor Department's petition to expand the areas of the state where employers receive preference when they bid on federal contracts.

The government agreed to add Bonner, Camas, Canyon, Gem, Idaho, Kootenai, Lincoln, Payette and Washington counties to the list of so-called Labor Surplus Areas that already included Adams, Benewah, Boundary, Clearwater, Shoshone and Valley counties.

Idaho is one of only four states to secure approval of additional areas. The others are Florida, California and Maine.

The designation is based on the jurisdictions exceeding the national average unemployment rate for 2008 and 2009, which was 9.1 percent.

The state's petition cited exceptional circumstances that drove the local unemployment rates above 9.1 percent in late 2008 and 2009 even though those rates for the two years combined did not hit that national average.

Statewide, the unemployment rate averaged just 6.4 percent for the two-year period even though it jumped to 8 percent in 2009. The rate hit 9.3 percent in 2010, ending the year at a record 9.7 percent.
