With just hours to go before the end of the business day, there are now five candidates seeking appointment to the school board in the Coeur d'Alene School District.

Letters of interest have come in from Christa Hazel, a stay-at-home mom who served as chair of the district's Long Range Planning Committee; Tony Norris, the parent of two children at Bryan Elementary School; Carole Stringer, an "elections administration and training consultant"; and Wanda Quinn, a program development specialist at the University of Idaho-CdA and former trustee who served from 1994 to 2006.

Downtown restaurant owner and former candidate Jim Purtee threw his hat in the ring earlier this week.

The appointee will fill the vacancy that will be left by board chair Edie Brooks McLachlan. She announced her resignation, effective July 1, on May 19.

The board will interview the prospective candidates, and appoint the new trustee during a meeting that begins at noon Monday at the Midtown Center, 1505 N. Fifth St.
