Locals players help Stars Blue win tourney

The Spokane Stars Blue went 5-0 to win the recent NCAA-sanctioned women's elite basketball tournament at the Wearhouse in Spokane.

The win vaults the team into the NCAA-sanctioned MSNM Western USA Championships, beginning Thursday in San Diego, where the Blue play Club Shock of Southern California at 10:15 a.m. at the University of San Diego.

Three local standouts play for the Blue, including Coeur d'Alene High's Erin Legal and Sydney Williams and Brooke Litalien of Post Falls.

Legel scored 10 points in the championship game, as the Blue defeated the Spokane Sandpipers 60-34. Williams added eights points against the Sandpipers.

Legal averaged 6.2 points per game, Williams 7.2 ppg and 4 rebounds per game and Litalien 4.2 ppg.
