Loggers defeat Cards in tourney opener

OSBURN - Sean Sutton went 3 for 3 with three RBIs as the Coeur d'Alene Loggers defeated the Prairie Cardinals 11-1 in the opening round of the Class A Area A (district) tournament on Wednesday at Morehouse Field.

Kolby DeHaas had a two-run double in a five-run second inning for Coeur d'Alene (28-20), which faces second-seeded Moscow today at 2 p.m.

"We came out in the first two innings and were able to score some runs," Coeur d'Alene coach Tom Barlow said. "It was nice to give our pitchers the lead early in the game. We haven't beat Moscow yet this season, but now would be a good time to do it."

Dylan Charbonneau had an RBI single in the fourth inning for Prairie, which faces the loser of the Coeur d'Alene-Moscow game on Friday at 2 p.m. in a loser-out game.

In the other opening round game, Silver Valley scored eight runs in the sixth inning to defeat St. Maries 11-2.

Silver Valley (5-14) will face top-seeded Lewis-Clark today at 5 p.m.

St. Maries will face the loser of the Silver Valley-Lewis-Clark game in a loser-out game at 11 a.m. on Friday.
