Wildfire Red hot in openers

SOFTBALL

COEUR d'ALENE - Amanda Rouse struck out 19 in the first game and had five RBIs in the second game as the Northwest Wildfire Red went 2-0 on the first day of the state ASA 10-and-under softball tournament at Ramsey Park on Friday.

The Northwest Wildfire Black and Coeur d'Alene Crush '00 won opening round games to advance to the quarterfinals today at 10:30 a.m. The Wildfire Black will play Emmett and the Crush will play the Wildfire Red.

In the 12U tournament, all three local teams fell in opening round games and will compete in the consolation bracket starting at 8:30 a.m. today at Ramsey Park.

In other games:

Idaho Sliders 13, Coeur d'Alene Crush '98 5: Elena Cook struck out five and Autumn Moffat went 3 for 3 in the win.

Diamond Bandits 12, Northwest Wildfire 0: Gabi Harrington went 2 for 2 with two runs scored and Kacie Marshall allowed two hits in the win for the Bandits.

Idaho Heat 17, Cd'A Crush '99 9: Ivy Hommel went 3 for 3 and Hailey Fisher went 2 for 2 for the Heat. Hailey Tefft hit a home run for the Crush.

Idaho Sliders 14, LC Bombers 10: Caitlin Scott went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored for the Sliders. Rachel Allingdale went 2 for 4 with three runs scored for the Bombers.

Northwest Wildfire Red 3, Idaho Burn 2, 8 inn.: Amanda Rouse struck out 19, and Mia Sandaine scored the winning run with one out on an RBI single by Hannah Wampler. Arissa Godina had 11 strikeouts for the Burn.

Emmett 18, Cd'A Crush '01 3: Aly Kaiser struck out eight in three innings, and also went 3 for 3 with a double.

Northwest Wildfire Black 12, Northwest Athletics 4: Olivia Zufelt went 2 for 3 with a home run, double and five RBIs for the Wildfire. Shelby Starr went 2 for 4 with a home run and triple in the win.

Cd'A Crush '00 15, Lewiston All-Stars 2: Haley Loffer went 3 for 4 with two RBIs for the Crush.

Northwest Wildfire Red 19, Dry Ice 1: Amanda Rouse hit a two-run homer and a three-run triple in the win.

Hayden Red 11, Sandpoint 1: Brady Thompson struck out three straight batters in the second inning of the win.

At Knutson Field

Post Falls 6, Lakeland 5: Sam Schultz struck out seven for Post Falls. Joseph Strietzel of Lakeland struck out four and had two hits.

At Canfield

Coeur d'Alene 12, Hayden Black 0: Brandon Gay's home run highlighted a 12-run third inning for the winners.
