| July 2, 2011 9:00 PM

SPOKANE - Daniel Mobeck's RBI single with two out in the fourth inning gave Prairie the lead for good in a 6-5 win against the Weber (Utah) Warriors and Zack Reeder struck out nine in a 2-0 loss against the Spokane Northstars as the Cardinals split their opening games in the Jackson Field pod of the Spokane-Coeur d'Alene Wood Bat Classic on Friday.

Darnell Metcalf went 3 for 4 with two runs scored for Prairie against Weber.

"We hit the ball alright, but we just played a great game in the first game," Prairie coach Dustin Frank said. "Tyler (Shaffer) threw a lot of strikes and didn't walk a bunch of people."

Shaffer had six strikeouts in five innings before Mobeck came in to get his third save for Prairie.

Bo Cook had a two-run single in the first inning for Spokane to give the Northstars the win.

"It was a really tough game," Frank said. "Zack pitched a gem of a game. We had a couple of baserunning errors they capitalized on and didn't give us any free bases."

Mobeck and Derek Tymesen had two hits apiece in the second game for Prairie (14-14), which faces Billings and Kennewick today at Jackson Field.
