'Journey Stories' comes to Hayden

| January 29, 2011 8:00 PM

An exhibit chronicling the ancestral passages and pilgrimages that color our nation's history is open at the Hayden Library.

"Journey Stories," a Smithsonian Institute traveling exhibit, explores the paths of immigrants, slaves, explorers, business tycoons, and historical figures whose travels led from the Mayflower to the Northwest.

The exhibit opened Friday at the Hayden Branch of the Kootenai-Shoshone Area Libraries, 8385 N Government Way and continues through May 11.

A grand opening celebration takes place at the library at 2 p.m. today.

Exhibit scholar John Bieter's presentation, "Journey Stories: Understanding Western Migration," captures the history of immigration and migration in America, and how the movement of people and ideas is central to the nation's history.

Visitors to the "Journey Stories" exhibit can navigate four centuries of American history through a wide range of visuals, audio clips, music, maps and artifacts.

"Journey Stories" has been made possible in Idaho by the Idaho Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities "We the People" Program.

At the Hayden Library, the exhibit has been made possible by support of the Friends of the Community Library Network and Walmart.
