Samuel Calvin Wylie 'Cal,' 55

Samuel Calvin Wylie "Cal," 55, went to join the Lord, and his son Eric, on Jan. 25, 2011, while at his home in Spirit Lake with family by his side after his courageous battle with cancer. Cal was born on Aug. 15, 1955, to Sam and Vera (Heath) Wylie in Fort Eustis, Va.

Throughout his lifetime Cal had many accomplishments, he was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and Air Force Reserves. He attended Carroll College in Helena, Mont., majoring in criminal justice, leading to a career in law enforcement. Cal served as a deputy sheriff in Lewis & Clark County and Toole County in Montana, a police officer in Helena, West Richland and Hanford, Wash., and a Montana Highway Patrol Officer. He also served as a Victims Advocate and probation officer in Sandpoint. Cal always lived his life to the fullest, with much adventure, and touching many lives along the way with his compassionate, funny, outgoing and loving personality.

In 2000, Cal married his best friend and soul mate Denise (Rohrich) Wylie. They spent much of their time together enjoying outdoor activities, long walks, hiking, crafty projects and home remodeling. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed camping, kayaking, boating and snorkeling at the family lake property on Lake Pend Oreille. Cal was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle and friend of many. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him.

Cal is survived by his loving wife, Denise of Spirit Lake; two sons Jordan and wife Britany Wylie of Post Falls, and Calvin Wylie Jr. of Post Falls; a daughter, Jennifer and husband Billy Albin of Granite Falls, Wash.; three stepchildren Brittany, Brandon and Sean Knopff of Auburn, Wash.; parents Sam and Vera Wylie of Spirit Lake; sisters Rhonda and husband Warren Kays of Wardner, Janet Woods of Spokane, Wash., Sandra Daily of Post Falls; 11 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Cal was preceded in death by his son, Eric Dan Wylie.

A Celebration of Life, followed by a lunch, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at the Rose of Sharon Tabernacle Church, located at 36245 Highway 41, Oldtown.
