EX-ARYAN: Press should apologize

| January 28, 2011 5:05 AM

I'm sorry? Regarding your interview with Zach Beck, ex-Aryan member, I'm sorry is a small consolation for helping stir up so much hatred that your area has become synonymous with the word "Racism." I was visiting your town that weekend and walking by a newspaper stand when I noticed the bright red photo depicting the Aryan Nation symbol. I was so offended and so angry that I bought the paper to see what could have prompted your paper to print that photo on its front page.

My first impression was, "Wow, Coeur d'Alene really is as hateful a place as I've heard it is." If I were a member of the group that calls themselves Aryan Nation I would have been absolutely thrilled with your article and photo. You gave them front page advertising, complete with all the symbology that represents their ignorant beliefs. Further you printed the fundamental belief system of the group and gave examples they falsely use to back up their racist doctrine.

Perhaps someone, somewhere was relieved to read that a former member of the group has seen the error of their ways, but shame on you for the way you glorified his repentance. Decent people who are tolerant of all races and religions live this way everyday without having to be praised for it.

Zach Beck isn't the only one who should be sorry, you should be sorry too. For sensationalizing this story and putting this group back in the spotlight.
