It's official: Glacier National Park set a visitation record in 2010 with 2,226,757 people entering the park in its Centennial year.

The count exceeded 2009 visitation by 9.6 percent and the previous annual high mark of 2,203,847 visitors in 1983.

Park officials attribute the record year largely to Centennial events, such as reunions, that were held throughout the year in Glacier.

The 2010 statistics were highlighted by a 6.3 percent increase in backcountry overnight trips and a 2.7 percent increase in concessions lodging.

Overnight stays in developed campgrounds was up .2 percent, but recreation vehicle numbers were down 1.4 percent compared to 2009.
