CRITICISM: Editor unfair to Currie, Piazza

| January 26, 2011 9:00 PM

The character assassination of the outgoing County Commissioners by the Coeur d'Alene Press editor Jan. 19 was unwarranted. In the seven years I have been here, every outgoing commissioner has received a bad mouthing. Commissioners by definition have great responsibility and little authority. No matter what the decision, there is always someone who doesn't like it; always willing to air their discontent.

On the other hand the owner or CEO of a private entity gets immediate response and cooperation on decision making.

Both of the commissioners showed up at 7:30 a.m. and left only after the days' work is done; sometimes at 1 a.m. the next morning. Often, going to highway district and City Council meetings throughout the county, well into the night.

In the coming years, the electorate will have an opportunity to evaluate the performance of the incoming commissioners.

As for judging performance, the Coeur d'Alene Press editor could use some improvement in performance.
