Bengals turn tables on Lake City

| January 23, 2011 8:00 PM

LEWISTON - Tanis Fuller scored 19 points and Savannah Blinn added 15 as the second-ranked Lewiston Bengals avenged a 29-point loss last week to Lake City by beating the fourth-ranked Timberwolves 53-35 in 5A Inland Empire League play Saturday at Booth Hall.

With the win, Lewiston (14-3, 4-1 5A IEL) clinched the No. 1 seed to the Region 1 tournament, and will host the first night of games on Feb. 4.

Lake City (15-4, 3-2) jumped out to a 9-4 lead, only to see Lewiston go on an 18-0 run that stretched into the second quarter.

"We just didn't get a chance to get going tonight," Lake City coach Royce Johnston said. "They played man-to-man instead of zone and took away our dribble drives. And we did not counter their runs. They got 42 points in the paint, which is too many."

Katie Rowe scored 10 points for Lake City, which visits Coeur d'Alene on Thursday to conclude regular season play.

Lewiston will travel to Post Falls on Feb. 8 to make up a game snowed out on Thursday.

Junior Liz Halcro scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Priest River (5-9, 1-2 IML), which forced the Wildcats into 27 turnovers.

"Defensively it was a nice turnaround in the second half. We normally struggle after the half so I was pleased," Priest River coach Gary Stewart said. "Our wings did a nice job getting the ball inside to Liz (Halcro). When you're not shooting well outside you've got to look inside and that's what we did."
