SURVEY: Why is boat launch missing?

| January 19, 2011 4:16 AM

Why is there not one question on the McEuen Park Public Questionnaire regarding the removal of the Third Street launch?

It is hard to believe that this topic was accidentally excluded when the planners know it is a hot topic and there is no reasonable substitute being proposed. Perhaps an inconvenient truth/challenge?

As The Press does not allow enough space for my detailed comments on each of the proposed alternatives, I've sent a longer letter with some analysis to the City Council. I've also asked for their team's detailed criteria and analysis on the how proposed alternatives (miles away) effectively substitute for the Third Street launch.

Simple survey question: Are you for or against the removal of the boat launch at Third Street? Possible answers: For it / Against it / Not Sure

Who is afraid of the answer to that question? Would it be too clear a form of measurable public input? Would large numbers against cause too much of a challenge to modifying the plan? Is that part of the decision already made?

A similar question regarding the boat launch should have been on the survey if the city is really interested in getting input from everyone on all parts of the plan. Someone please explain to us why it was not. Also, one should not have to join Facebook to take part in open public electronic discussion and debate.
