REPEAL: Bigotry leads to more war

| January 16, 2011 9:00 PM

This is in response to a letter I read in The Press titled "Repeal: Sex will be everywhere." I feel compelled to respond.

First off, let me say that I am married, have seven children and 16 grandchildren. I am also a proud Vietnam Vet and served six years in the U.S. Army. I had the privilege to serve with men of every walk of life, every belief, etc. While in Vietnam I also knew a few gays. These men had the same fears and doubts that the rest of us had; never once did their sexual identity interfere with their duty. They were not having sex in every available place, yes not even in combat. They lost their lives in the line of duty and everyone who knew them cried and I still remember them and feel a sense of loss.

They were good soldiers who served with distinction and honor. I just wish that people would set aside their hate and bigotry and try tolerance for a change. Maybe then there would be no need for war.
