Post Falls places third at River City Duals

POST FALLS - The host Post Falls Trojans defeated 5A Inland Empire League rival Lewiston 31-30 to finish third in the 14th annual River City Duals at The Arena on Saturday.

This year, the 24-team tournament was divided into eight pods of three teams on Friday. Teams that went 2-0 in their pods advanced to the gold bracket Saturday, 1-1 teams advanced to the silver bracket and 0-2 teams advanced to the bronze bracket.

Post Falls finished second last year to Columbia of Nampa. This year, the Trojans lost 36-33 in the semifinals to Caldwell, which went on to beat Columbia 32-28 in the championship dual, ending Columbia's run of three straight titles.

"Our guys did a great job," Post Falls coach Pete Reardon said. "We've got a couple of guys banged up, some sickness. We're not at 100 percent, but some other kids stepped in and wrestled well. We're right on track for where we need to be for the state tournament."

Timberlake went 1-2 on Saturday to finish sixth in the silver bracket. Lakeland went 2-1, defeating St. Maries 43-36 for third in the bronze bracket.

Sandpoint went 3-0 on Saturday to win the bronze bracket, beating Cheney 41-38 for the championship.

Wallace went 2-1, losing to Pasco 58-18 in the championship match in the silver bracket.

Championship - Caldwell 32, Columbia 28.

Third-fourth - Post Falls 31, Lewiston 30.

Fifth-sixth - Shadle Park 51, Riverside 27.

Seventh-eighth - Nampa 45, Colville 32.

Vikings finish second at Rocky Mountain Classic

MISSOULA, Mont. - Kenny Staub (140) and Thomas Tucker (215) each placed second for Coeur d'Alene, which finished second in the 27-team Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic at Sentinel High.

Staub fell to Kyle Leir of Libby in the championship match, and Tucker lost to Jake Laden of University. University won the tournament with 209.5 points. Coeur d'Alene had 166.

"I was real happy with the weekend," Coeur d'Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. "We've had some guys that have started to step up and wrestle really well. This was the first time we've placed at this tournament and to have nine guys place was huge for us."

Johnny Peregrina (160) and Garrett DeMers (171) were third, Kyle Siegwarth (130) and Caleb Davis (189) fourth, A.J. Konda (105) fifth, Hudson Staub (125) seventh and Chase Lincoln (98) eighth for Coeur d'Alene.

"Overall, we're headed in the right direction," Moffat said. "This is definitely something to build on because this was a state-caliber type of tournament."

Jacob Benson (285) and Calen Lambert (189) finished sixth for the Timberwolves, who finished 18th. Nate Partenfelder (140) was seventh.

"We're constantly improving and we're close, and we're on the edge there, and we haven't made that turn yet," Lake City coach Corey Owen said. "But I can tell we're close."

Coeur d'Alene and Lake City will face off for the TerHark Cup on Thursday at Lake City.
