OUTLETS: Great place to shop

I was twice blessed the week before Thanksgiving. While sharing a room at a Women's Retreat I noticed a bottle of Ibuprofen with a retail price and a sales price much lower. Because I had recently purchased the same item and paid full retail, I vowed I would again visit Grocery Outlets in the former Tidyman's building. When I checked out I noticed I had saved a whopping $60 over retail prices. Yeah! I also noticed they had a free raffle drawing for a "Thanksgiving Dinner," so I signed my name and telephone number. The following Monday I was called by the store to say I was the lucky winner, and could come pick up a frozen turkey and a $100 gift certificate. Wow!

When I went the next day to pick up my prize, I put items in the shopping cart that I wouldn't necessarily buy Thanksgiving week such as body lotion and stocking stuffers. I also bought necessities for the holiday meal. I didn't add up the items as I went, and I got a little nervous as I went to check out with a very full basket. I had exactly $1.75 in my purse. What a blessing when the bill came to $101.60, minus the $100 certificate, so I left with a whopping 15 cents and a savings over retail prices of $85.

I recommend that others mindful of dollars visit Grocery Outlets. I also remember the good the Mayers do, filling the pantry of every new Habitat for Humanity home.

PLAY: Thanks for 'funds' and 'fun'

Christian Youth Theater-North Idaho would like to thank those in the community who participated, volunteered or donated to our recent fundraiser, Play in a Day on Dec. 28-29. More than 150 local kids along with 20-plus adult volunteers literally put together "Highlights of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" in 24 hours!

One hundred and twenty kids between the ages of 8-18 were cast while another 30-plus kids crewed. The crew created, pulled and built sets, props and costumes overnight while the cast learned their lines on Dec. 28. Early Dec. 29, while the crew slept, the cast rehearsed learning their blocking and choreography. At 3 p.m. on Dec. 29, all came together for dress rehearsal, a quick bite to eat and then a performance for supporters and the curious who couldn't believe it could be accomplished!

While the event was free to the kids, through ticket sales to the public and a drawing for donated raffle items, CYT-North Idaho raised almost $2,000. Nearly 10 percent went directly to a scholarship fund to provide tuition money for kids who wish to take CYT-NI's theater arts classes. The remainder went back into the CYT nonprofit educational program. The CYT-North Idaho Staff and Chill Bucket Productions look forward to returning to the Kroc next year to do it all again. Thank you for the "funds" and the "fun" North Idaho!
