BLOOD: Phobia isn't a roadblock

| January 16, 2011 9:00 PM

Regarding Sholeh Patrick's column on blood donation, I have been an infrequent donor since college, but I did the week before Christmas. I have a needle phobia, and I am comforted by holding someone's hand tightly as the needle is being inserted. All of the Red Cross centers I've ever gone to are very understanding. The needle stick really isn't that painful, it's the anticipation that bothers me. The local workers/volunteers were as kind as always, and the after donation snacks are great.
