New cushion hits market by storm

Are you having problems with skin breakdown from prolonged sitting, or lack of sensation? Do you also have difficulty with trunk control or instability?

Early last year, Sunrise Medical released the Jay 3 Adjustable Skin Protection and Positioning Cushion. This cushion comes in a wide variety of sizes and configurations. One reason for this is that everyone is different. Some may need it to stabilize their pelvis, while others need it for the skin protection properties it offers.

One unique feature to this cushion is the ability to order the pelvic well in different sizes.

The reason for this is based on the human anatomy. Not everyone has the same size pelvis. With a properly fitted pelvic loading area (PLA) we get optimized stability.

Inside this well are four choices of inserts. Most common being the gel insert. For an individual without a pelvic obliquity, the factory filled insert is preferred.

They also have an adjustable gel insert for pelvic deformities. For someone that prefers air floatation (Roho), you can order this cushion with a single or dual valve air insert. Finding the right option will provide greater distribution of pressure, and provide increased stability.

Finally for those that require increased positioning for their legs, this cushion can come with additional supports. Ab and adduction inserts help keep your lower extremities in line with your pelvis keeping them in a true mid-line posture.

Cushions can be a wonderful tool to help relieve pressure, provide comfort, and stability.
