The importance of Hospice House

Hospice of North Idaho has been providing essential care and services for 30 years, enabling those who are seriously ill to remain in their homes by offering them comfort, dignity and control over the important decisions that impact their end-of-life care.

However, some of our seriously ill friends and neighbors are unable to stay in their homes for the entirety of their time with hospice. Symptoms may become too difficult to manage symptoms like pain, dementia, delirium, breathlessness, and other conditions, and require more intensive medical interventions than can be provided in the home.

Hospice of North Idaho's answer to this gap in services is to build a Hospice House for our community. Hospice House will offer a homelike environment, together with the full complement of Hospice of North Idaho's comfort-oriented care provided at a more intensive level. Services include expert pain and symptom management, nursing care, assistance with the tasks of daily living (feeding, bathing, etc.), friendly visiting by volunteers, spiritual and psycho-social counseling for patients and their loved ones, and bereavement counseling for family members.

Hospice of North Idaho is able to fulfill this need through the support of the community. Thanks to a successful partnership between the community, fundraising cabinet, board of directors and staff, Hospice House construction is underway and over $2 million of the $3 million needed to build Hospice House has been raised.
